The Problem

Clutter is the tangible result of two opposing societal imperatives: acquire more and do not waste anything. At the intersection, lies a massive accumulation of objects no longer needed but seemingly too valued to be trash. The public is becoming increasingly aware of a growing clutter issue within the community as proclaimed, in the January 2018, Quincy Patriot Ledger “Clutter: South Shore Faces Prominent Hoarding Problem.” As clinically impairing clutter is the most obvious and debilitating symptom of hoarding behavior its presence, especially in such high numbers, represents both a public health crisis and a mental health crisis.

Our History

The founder of The Next Step to Reorganization Inc initially began conceptualizing this non-profit while working in the homes of individuals with hoarding disorder and completing her bachelor’s degree in Psychology. In her final class, she was asked to write a paper on a mental health condition, fully exploring its impact on the individual, the family, and society. Draft a research proposal and present a 30 min PowerPoint on the importance of continuing researching this disorder. At this same time, Hoarding Disorder, as a unique diagnosis, became a part of the DSM-5. Having lived experience within the context of her own family, ten years of working experience with those who had hoarding behavior, she became passionate about helping those with hoarding behavior.

Our Mission

Establish and maintain a nonprofit to serve the diverse community needs concerning the evolving public health crisis that results from having clinically impairing clutter within the home and community

Help Our Charitable Organization

The Next Step to Reorganization is a newly incorporated charitable organization, founded in recognition of the large prevalence and numerous adverse consequences that hoarding behavior has on our community- including non-hoarding persons as well. All money raised will be used to complete mission objectives such as providing funding for decluttering and reparation of hoarded houses to prevent latent adverse social consequences, including but not limited to social isolation, health and safety violations, evictions, homelessness or death!
